William Harty Brady, Jr.

Statesboro- William H. Brady, Jr. of Statesboro, Georgia died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 after an extended illness.

Bill was born June 29, 1929 in Savannah, Georgia. After retiring from the U.S. Navy in 1971, he moved to Statesboro where he graduated from Georgia Southern University and taught at Statesboro High School from 1973 to 1989. He was a member of Georgia Vocational Association, the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, the Knights of Columbus in both Statesboro and Savannah, and a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Bill was a member of Southern Boosters and an avid GSU Eagle football fan who never missed a home game. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Helen McGinley Brady of Savannah and brother, John J. Brady of Mobile, Alabama.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elise Sowell Brady; daughter, Lee Anne Mark Hoppe of Blacksburg, VA.; sons, Patrick M. Brady of Blacksburg, VA and Christopher J. Susan Brady of Macon, GA.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Hoppe of Fairfax, VA and Michael W. Hoppe of Blacksburg , VA. He is also survived by a sister, Patricia Myrle Olson, and brother, Michael J. Patti Brady both of Savannah. He was the son-in-law of Nellie Sowell of Statesboro and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation: Friday, June 18, 2010 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro. There will be a rosary service at 5:00 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Statesboro. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors of Savannah and Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro are in charge of the arrangements.
